Mark gets wired for orthostatic training. The sensors being attached to his temples measure rheostatic pressure, or the amount of blood being pushed to the head and upper body. The table is rotated from minus 45 degrees (head down) to plus 50 degrees (head up), so the blood is shifted from the head to the feet and back again. In theory, the body gets tired of this, and learns to counter the effect, which speeds up its adaptation to weightlessness. |
