Equipment and composition to be used (total weight 3.0 kg):

  • An INC-12V BioTherm portable incubator produced by CryoLogic, Australia with dimensions of 270x210x260 mm.   This incubator runs on a chargeable battery for between 36 and 48 hours, and can also run on 12V DC or 220V AC.  This incubator radiates no rays (harmful or harmless) of any kind.

  • Inside the incubator will be twelve (12) culture tubes containing a culture medium of 5 ml each.  Additional culture medium of a volume of 150 ml will be included in the incubator. There will also be a 150 ml tube for used culture medium (waist).

  • Sterile embryos, stem cells and somatic cells of mice and sheep will be inside the culture tubes in two tubes each.  The environment in which these embryos and cells are cultured has to be 100% sterile and free of all known microorganisms, including bacteria and viruses.  The embryos and cells therefore present no risk to human health or environmental contamination in the event of a highly unlikely spillage.  The embryos and cells will be collected under sterile surgical procedures to ensure an absolutely contamination-free environment, as well as experimental material.

Five sterile syringes and fifty sterile needles to change half of the culture medium in each tube every second day.
