Experiment “Syneclise-SA”

The experiment “Syneclise-SA” is improving of the way of remote sensing of the Earth resources using images from russian part of the ISS and geoinformational sistems.

The experiment “Syneclise-SA” is a part of program named “Uragan” – the remote sensing of the Earth resources, global ecological situation of disasters from the russian part of the ISS.

Goals

The experiment “Syneclise-SA” is carried on the russian part of the ISS with the cosmonaut Mark Shuttleworth. The goal of the experiment is making test version of GIS-technology of the remote sensing of the Earth surface and water resources using digital, photo and video materials from ISS, using new generation PCs, making models of natural processes and special computer soft.

Additional Goals

  • working through various combinations of remote sensing equipment for various objects of monitoring;
  • working through the methods of carrying on the experiment using the line “station-earth” and operational analysis of datas by the group of the scientists;
  • determination of the technical equipment on the Earth to get and to process information;
  • making models of dynamics of natural processes, analysis of their condition and their changing;
  • making special computer soft for analysis of the result of the experiment;
  • practical test of some results.

Working Aboard

On the russian part of the ISS the expedition team make images of various natural objects (about 100) with help of basic team when the main axis of ISS is from 0 to 45 degrees.

The expedition team takes conditions of shooting for the following analysis on the Earth. And making recommendations about optimization of shooting (clouds level, position of the sun, position of the sun relative to station, using filters etc.).

Working after the Flight

The engineer-investigator has consulting work with all team that works on special GIS-technology. The engineer-investigator also participates as the head manager.

Possible Reasearch Options

  1. It is expected, that the basic research problems in territory of Southern Africa will offer the scientists RSA. As the first reflections the following is offered: Study of geological features of territory by search of new deposits of diamonds. The initial training is carried out with the scientists RSA and Russia.
  2. Directly in flight cosmonaut with the help of cards of diamond deposits observes these structures in different conditions of light exposure, at different corners mso-ansi-language: vision etc. It is supposed, that cosmonaut will notice characteristic features of these structures and on the new areas will find out similar attributes.
  3. The supervision are fixed with the help of the onboard equipment, and the comments enter the name on the separate tape recorder (type press-man). The shooting is made as small-scale, and is selective on separate sites with resolution about 10 m. Geological structures, including bushes of diamond pipes, is traced wholly in territory RSA, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Tanzania. 2. Study of structures of deposits of gold. The technique of researches is similar to a position 1. In a basis - comparison of a landscape with known cards. The ancient breeds - green stone belt are studied. The territory of researches is specified in a position 1. The special attention addresses on those places, where the mountain breeds become light (more yellow, more white, more grey etc.). The detailed attributes will be informed on employment. It is very important to see and to removein fine, average and large scales in completely different conditions structural features (units, line, crossing of breaks). Comparing district with geological cards to plan unknown similar structures.
  4. Supervision both shooting of pool of petroleum and gas along coast
  5. Mozambique and on a shelf - deposit "Pande". The work onboard is similar to positions 1 and 2. 4. Fixation of range of real penetration mso-ansi-language: iceberg in the party of Southern Africa for limits of known border of the maximal distribution of floating ice. 5. Supervision of dusty flows. Their shooting and fixation of the maximal range of adjourment of a dust. 6. Fixation of the centers of wood fires, including with the minimal area of the centers about 0,1 hectare. 7. Shooting glaciers in territory of Southern America and Asia (about 40 objects) for an estimation of change of a climate on a planet. Comparison with materials of shooting received during flight of station "Mir". 8. Various kinds of ecological infringements of natural environment and accidents in territory of Southern Africa according to the list of the program "Hurricane".
  6. The used equipment: aboard ISS for experiment "Syneclise-SA" it is necessary to deliver the digital camera with a format of the staff not less 56x56 mm and complete set of replaceable optics with F from 50 up to 800 mm, digital videocamera, the field-glass with increase up to 20 (is possible uses of the Russian device " Rubinar " with increase up to 40), personal computer.
  7. It is rather desirable to include in the program of preparation educational demonstration flights by the plane.
